This album has a bit of a back-story to it: I was living in Washington when all of these songs (except for "My Violent Heart") were written and recorded, so my mindset was different from when I'd made my other music; I felt more alone, more isolated, more empty. I think the music on this album showcases that.
The photograph on the cover was taken by my friend Jesse Thompson in Tacoma, Washington, so it's fitting that it would be used as the cover to an album that was recorded somewhat nearby.
